Since more than five years, Raif Badawi is sentenced to flogging and separated from his family for a blog in which he wrote liberal ideas about Islam and politics.
His wife Ensar moved to Canada and created the Raif Badawi Foundation for Freedom in the Arab World.
You can follow the @RaifBadawiFoundation on Twitter, to support his fight for free speech.
If you want to be part of it, here is the link: http://www.raifbadawifoundation.org
In fact, everybody can be part of it, and the donation amount is small: five US dollars.
In some countries, such as Canada, protests go on: the photo of the header is this of a demonstration in Sherbrooke, Canada.
But please act, and if you are on Twitter, tweet for his freedom. Now , the campaign is international, as shows the photo below.
The sentence of the lashing is unjust and contrary to human rights: freedom of expression is one of these fundamental rights.
King Salman, the actual leader of Saudi Arabia, condemned him to this unjust sentence just because he dared speak his mind.
The hashtag #blogging is not a crime is linked to the campaign to free Raif Badawi.
Saudi Arabia has a strict view of Islam because it is the country of Mecca, and each year the pilgrimage (the “hajj”, in Arabic)is a source of wealth to the kingdom.
But Islam can be conciliated with philosophy, and personal thought, as shows Ibn Rushd (Averroes) in his Decisive Treaty.
It is in the name of this personal thought, supported by a very known Arab philosopher, that Raif Badawi is sentenced to flogging by a regime which does not bear liberal ideas, but the literal reading of the Qur’an.
Whatever your religion (I am a Muslim), please support Raif Badawi.
Join the campaign for his freedom.
