After Fear of Misery, DEMOCRACY won in France

After the first round of the Presidential Elections, French knew , some of course, a big fear: the results of Marine Le Pen were higher than those of her father.

She put in her team deniers of the Shoah, members of the former OAS(the terrorist organization formed during the Algeria War, Secret Armed Organization, in English), members of the church hardly antisemitic and against Islam , as her father, because these ones were the pillars of the party. But She succeeded  in not showing them and their influence.

As the results of the Presidential Elections enlighten, the two principal parties , Left, Right, (Socialist/ Republicans) have disappeared from the opinion, due to their politics : they were the two ones to share the political scene, and their results and promises have disappointed the voters.

The situation is not this of 2002, when all the people afraid of Le Pen’s discourse went to vote , not for the other candidate, but against Le Pen.

Now, the populism has grown in Europe and in the USA.

The argument of the FN (Front National, National Front) has to adapt to the unemployment  of a part of people (in France, the youth), and to the international policy: the situation in the Middle-East, especially in Syria, allows to refuse foreigners, especially Muslim, and to close the borders.

According to official results, Macron has been elected President with 66 °/° , and Marine Le Pen beaten with only 34 °/°. But she makes more than her father, hiding the awful aspect of the party. She changed the motto of the party: “In The Name Of the People”, which hides the racism.

Macron’s voters are diverse: to his supporters, we must add all who voted , not FOR him, but AGAINST Marine Le Pen.

Social Media were part of the campaign; after the results of the first tour, the hashtag #RadioLondres  appeared on Twitter; between the first and the second, was added #RadioLondres2017, with small messages ; examples are difficult to give, because they are all built on jokes, on linguistics , which can not be translated; for a non-French speaker, what does mean:

“La France n’ira pas en Asie. Je répète: la France n’ira pas en nazi”

The sentence was taken yesterday, in the afternoon, after #RadioLondres.

It reproduces the  linguistic pattern of the messages shared from London by the Resistance who followed , in France, the communication delivered by General De Gaulle .

Not to be understood by the Germans, they were built on French linguistics schema, that were not translatable to a non-native French speaker.

In fact, it is impossible to understand the results in regions , without knowing , first the economical context, second,  basis of French History of the 20th Century.

French elected President Macron , except in two regions where he lost with 70°/° in favor of Marine Le Pen: the North, and the Mediterranean, particularly Corsica.

The results , regions by regions , can be found on the French newspaper “Le Monde”, following this link:

In the North, which economy was founded on mines, on manufacturing, the “globalization” that denounces the FN is responsible for a loss of jobs. Now, cars, clothes, etc, are made in South countries, underpaid.

In the South of France, and in Corsica, this has to see with the past. When France had colonies in North Africa, numerous were the populations of the South who had a property in Algeria; Tunisia and Morocco were only under protectorates.

The Algeria War was so violent and  so many things were not recognized , that it is only in 1999 that the expression” The Algeria War” entered in official documents, at the place of “the events in Algeria and North Africa”. This decision of the National Assembly and of the Senate is revelatory: more than 30 years after the decolonization; relating to the colonization, it began in 1830…

When Marine Le Pen , in one of her proposition, promises to reestablish torture for criminals and terrorists, this proposition has to deal with Petain ‘ s policy and to the use of torture during the Algeria War.

The stake was, for the first time, to choose between a future, even if we may be disappointed, and our past, even awful.
